Florida 2007 Presidential Scholars Finalists

The 2007 Presidential scholars have been announced and Florida has 2 finalists.  Two of these finalists are from the Tampa Bay area.   The Presidential Scholars is not something that someone can apply for.  One requirement is that all applicants must be United States citizens.  Academic based Presidential Scholars must have stellar scores for the ACT () or the SAT.   Based on this data applications are sent out and the nominees go through a process before they are finally selected.

The art based portions of the Presidential Scholars were first introduced in 1964 to recognize exceptionally gifted and talented graduating high school seniors across the United States.   The art portion of the Presidential Scholars was first introduced in the 1974 and gives recognitions to seniors that exceptionally talented in the arts. The nominations for the art portion must be academically talented and also participate in National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts' (NFAA) Arts Recognition and Talent Search (ARTS).

Since 1983, each Presidential Scholar has invited his or her most inspiring and challenging teacher to travel to Washington, D.C., to receive a Teacher Recognition Award from the U.S. Department of Education and to participate in the recognition events.
