Most of the time children are taught the uppercase alphabet letter before they are taught the lowercase alphabet letters.  You can teach both lowercase and uppercase at the same time.  Children are sponges and they are able to recognize that there are two different ways to write a letter.

When teach the letter shapes you should also remember to teach the sound that the letter makes so that children will be able to associate each letter with its sound.
